I am just seeing this article and I do not agree with these statement's that you made "There are three main objectives to the STEAM movement, which are to transform research and make room for art and design in STEM, allowing for the integration of art and design in pre-school and high school levels, as well as encourage companies and employers to hire artists and designers." - You are using a minimal definition of Art, not the Arts. Social Studies or Liberal arts are MUCH more than art and design. This definition was pushed by John Maeda and is not based on my research. It has been confusing to separate the 'arts backed' claim of my less-biased original and ongoing research of the Arts, versus Art. THANKS again for trying to cover my research-backed work with less encompassing and more vague definitions that have become popular! See https://www.spaceq.ca/nova-scotia-destined-cyclone-4m-rocket-for-maritime-launch-services-passes-another-test/#comment-4664139061 Boucher even has gone so far as to cut off commenting on MLS announcements. MLS is moving from hopeful announcements into the territory of defrauding investors with false statements. I have confirmed from multiple sources here in Ukraine that a) MLS is completely dependent on Yuzhnoye as their supplier of launch vehicles and they have been reporting that MLS and Yuzhnoye are partners in this venture. Yuzhnoye is tied in with the current court case with de-frauding Canada's EDC and MDA of $10 million Canadian b) the Cyclone 4M has never successfully been launched and certainly not 220 times as alleged. c) Yuzhnoye can not deliver any Cyclone 4Ms for at least 2 years as they do not have the parts to complete the RD 870 first stage boosters. No Stage I engines means no flying - right. In short the whole project has gone from reaching for th stars to picking investor's pockets and Space Q seems to want to go along with it. This is why there is nothing left of the space industry, compounded with low-vision and ignorant Canadian governments of the benefit to all Canadians to excel in domains of international relevancy, and Space is one such important domain.

Andrew GoldenbergAndrew Goldenberghttps://www.mie.utoronto.ca/mie/faculty/goldenbergnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6618880.post-13795286868855802782019-03-21T10:29:54.684-07:002019-03-21T10:29:54.684-07:00Thanks for the heads-up Kieran.

Surely the CSA will do something on the ISS over the next few years. Maybe its just a typo?"

Note that this is in a table titled “Policy Actions since the 2018 Fall Economic Statement by Department.” I interpret that to mean “new money announced in this budget, by department.” The line-items in regular type are the individual new-money programs (“policy actions”). The bold-faced lines are the per-department roll-ups of those. The only new program under the CSA is the “Canada Reaches for the Moon and Beyond” program, and so the CSA’s roll-up is equal to that.

This is *new* money --- the CSA still also has all previously-announced funding (“since the 2018 Fall Economic Statement”), such as the ISS lifetime extension from a couple of years ago, and the satellite broadband initiative from last year, as well as its A-Base funding of something like $270M/year.

- Kieran

Dr. Kieran A. It's a sha...Thanks for your comments, Leslie.

It's a shame we disagree. I believe that Maxar's fiscal performance is absolutely of interest to Canadians since its MDA subsidiary is the prime contractor for Canada's Canadarm program.

Should Maxar ever go out of business (a reasonable possibility given its current debt load, dropping stock price, shrinking cash-flow and billion dollar financial loss in the last quarter) Canada's ability to follow-through with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Thursday commitment to build a "Canadarm3" for the US Lunar Gateway would surely be in jeopardy.

Canada's first prime contractor for the Canadarm, Downsview ON based Spar Aerospace was broken up and sold back in the 1990's after running into fiscal trouble so it's not as if this scenario hasn't happened before.

While I appreciate your current role as the Director of Public Affairs at Brampton ON based MDA, I also stand by the current coverage of both Thursday's announcement and of the Maxar Q4 conference call held later that same day.

And both stories were included in the e-mail this blog sent out to subscribers on Friday morning because both were important and related to each other.

With that said and done, everyone contributing to this blog is more than happy to correct factual errors in our coverage and provide opportunities for you to get your voice out.

I look forward to your future contributions.

Chuck Black - EditorChuck Blackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09506476753520146858noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6618880.post-12457727986839410062019-03-01T09:01:19.188-08:002019-03-01T09:01:19.188-08:00Chuck, it’s amazing to me that on the day after th...Chuck, it’s amazing to me that on the day after the government commits more than $2B to the Canadian space program, possibly the largest single commitment for space in our history, you lead your blog with a posting about Maxar’s quarterly call.

It would seem to call into question your judgement on what is valuable news for your readers. Furthermore, the vendetta you have against MDA and our parent company is illogical.

Yesterday’s announcement will broadly benefit many Canadian space companies as well as the aerospace and AI clusters across Canada, not simply MDA, and it will spur new entrants.

And the LEAP program announced yesterday will be enormously beneficial to SMEs and academics with bright ideas, grit and advanced capabilities to develop and test technologies and applications on and around the Moon.

This was a generational investment in Canada’s space program by the government, yet you choose to use the announcement to be critical of MDA and your competitor. The mind boggles.

Leslie SwartmanLeslie Swartmanhttps://www.maxar.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6618880.post-50662205024353996272019-02-26T11:06:21.846-08:002019-02-26T11:06:21.846-08:00in 2016, the Canadian mining sector contributed mo...in 2016, the Canadian mining sector contributed more than 56 billion to the GDP.
